Mybook White Light First Steps

If you purchased a Mybook World Edition White Light, and you plan to add some great features to it, you should start with the following first steps :

1) Identify the ip address of your Mybook :

Connect to your Mybook Administration interface

Login, then click the Network Icon :

 

Note the IP address information.

2) Activate SSH on your Mybook 

Click the "Advanced Mode" Link, then

Click the System/Advanced Button :

Select  the "Enable SSH" option :

then click the "Submit" button

3) Install PUTTY on your windows computer :

Download the PuTTy.exe tool from the following url :

http://www.putty.org/

4) Connect to your Mybook using PUTTY

Launch PuTTy.exe on your windows computer,then type your Mybook's IP Address :

 

Click the Open Button

login as root

type the password : welc0me

 ( Note the "zero" character after welc ...)

As soon as you have reached these steps, you are ready to install the FeaturePacks Manager tool.

FeaturePacks Manager installation

The FeaturePacks Manager will add an additional web interface to the standard Western Digital Interface.

This new administration interface will allow you to install additional features to your Mybook very easily .

Installation procedure :
If you use static ip address , please, ensure that your Mybook has correct DNS, and gateway configured in the standard Western digital interface before you start installation.
 
In order to install the FeaturePack Manager, connect to your Mybook as root, using PUTTY,

then , copy the following line in your clipboard : ( be carefull, it is a single line)

cd /root;wget -q http://highlevelbits.free.fr/download-MBWEW/FPInstaller/FeaturePackInstaller.sh -O /root/FeaturePackInstaller.sh;sh /root/FeaturePackInstaller.sh

Then , Right Click on the Green Cursor in the PUTTY Window.

This action will paste the line in your PUTTY Window.

Click

The installation of the FeaturePacks Manager is then launched. A lot of text will scroll across the screen. Please wait the end of the installation when it says "Installatuion complete"
 

When the installation is finished, you can close your PUTTY Window ( you should not need it anymore ... ).

You are now ready to connect to the FeaturePacks Manager ...

 Note 1 : July 2010 :  there is currently some unavailability in ipkg servers. if the installation fails, please wait a few hours, then try again...

Connect to the FeaturePacks Manager interface

In order to connect to the Feature Manager interface, simply connect to your usual Mybook admin interface :

http://[MYBOOK]

type your usual admin user  and password,

then select "FeaturePacks Manager" from the Drop down list.

 

Then clilck the "Login" button.

You can see all the Features that are installed and their associated menus. 

You can Click the "Flower" ( Features)  button  to Add new features to your Mybook

Click the "Home" button to refresh the menu. 

Click the Exit Button to log off

How To install a FeaturePack

In order to install a Feature Pack, connect to the Feature Packs Manager.

Then click the "Flower button" :

You can see the list of installed feature packs in the first part of the window.

if a new version is available, an "upgrade" button will be displayed.

 

You can see the list of Available Feature Packs in the second part of the window.

Simply click the Install button to install the Feature pack.

Note that some FeaturePacks are only available to donators and the Install button will only be displayed on registered versions.

If a new Feature Pack is available , the interface will display it  automatically. ( the interface will download the list of available FeaturePacks each time  you click the "Flower button".
