E-mail Print PDF

In order to open the WhiteLight Mybook World device, you can follow the following procedure :

Please, use this information at your own risks, obviously, opening your device will void the Warranty !

You will need a FLAT blade screw drivers :

Locate the two rubber pads on the bottom of the enclosure near the front, curved surface. remove these two pads and keep them in a safe place :

There are two little tabs below. Depress the two tabs below using a small flat-head screwdriver. It's almost impossible to leave the two tabs , sound i've broken one of them. they are a sort of warranty seal for sure.

There are also 4 tabs that prevent you from sliding the box :

Insert your screwdrivers on the red Arrows carefully, while sliding the Box. This is the most difficult part, you will have to be patient , carefull and work on it one after the other.

You can remove the transparent plastic :

Then , simply pull the Blacks rubbers, and the disk will come UP :

Then  remove the 3 screws and slide the cover :

Can you tell me the type of hard drive I would need in order to replace the drive for a larger 2tb. I have the WD10000H1NC-00 mybook world edition. Is it as simple as remove and replace with a new drive?

Cheers

John
Non-broken tabs!

I was able to get the cover off without breaking the tabs by looping 2 large paperclips through the holes next to the tabs, slipping a screwdriver into those paperclips and pulling the case away from the tabs as I slid the cover off.
Plastic Spatula Prybar

This guide was very helpful - and the tabs are hanging in where they can bend back someday - but I was surprised that a spatula was not used at the fourth illustration where there are no access holes. I was first shown this trick in the days of the toaster Macintosh and how much is viagra. It prevents scarring of the case. Fingernails (or a throwaway spatula) can open the crack in the covers and the spatula will hold the tabs apart; on the other side the screwdrivers are fine. Then a cross-handed pull (or two) on the covers will open the case up.
