Transmission is a torrent downloader tool

To find torrent files, you can check the following site, referring only legal content availabe as torrent download. ( it is illegal to download commercial or licenced content ).
http://www.legaltorrents.com

Installing the Transmission tool is easy with the Transmission Feature Pack : simply click "Install" !

Then you can configure Transmission :

On the Mybook Live Edition, there is no Post Download script available, so the interface will not display this option.

The Transmission Feature pack will install and configure Transmission on your Mybook Automatically :

You can now connect to the  Transmission web interface  to upload torrent files :

Hi to all,

I have a MY book live 2T. After a wrong path change, the root partition is full 100%. As result, the IU(web interface) of the NAS is not working. The same with the Transmission IU.

I used your previous comments and with the command:

cd /opt
find / -type f -size +20000k -exec ls -lh {} \; | awk '{ print $9 ": " $5 }'

cd /usr
find / -type f -size +20000k -exec ls -lh {} \; | awk '{ print $9 ": " $5 }'

I found that the file that cause the problem is :
" /\\MYBOOKLIVE\MOVIE\IRONMAN : 1.6G "

I used the cd command to access the path but without access. I tried to find this file by windows explorer also, but nothing there is. My debian linux knowledge are bad, and maybe my question seems stupid.

How can remove this file in order to free space.

teinturman :
hi, the path you are raising is not a correct path.
when you have seen this "MOVIE" path, was it in the usr folder ? or in the opt folder ?

what happen if you type (within a putty session)
cd /usr/MYBOOKLIVE/MOVIE
ls

do you see the IRONMAN file ?

if yes, then you can type
rm IRONMAN

After install Transmission, I always get this error: "Unable to save resume file: No space left on device"

This is perhaps due to insufficient space in the root directory of the drive:-

teinturman :
Hi,
this is a critical situation, the root partition is full..

have you changed the default download folder from transmission? a wrong folder there could lead to fill the root partition ...

Can you also remove some log files if they exist:
rm /opt/var/log/tinyproxy/tinyproxy.log

Also,
can you do the following commands, to search for the big files :

cd /opt
find / -type f -size +20000k -exec ls -lh {} \; | awk '{ print $9 ": " $5 }'

cd /usr

Please, let me know how this issue goes,

First of all, thanks alot for this great Feature Pack!

Previously I had Transmission 2.2 (2.73) installed
Then I uninstall it and install Transmission 2.3, this what it gives:

teinturman :
Hi, the error comes from the fact that the install script have not been able to download the package list :
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/ds101g/cross/stable/Packages.gz

maybe the file was not available when you tried to reinstall.

can you re-uninstall / reinstall the feature pack, and check if the error downloading this file still happens?
you shoud switch back the changes you have made in /etc/profile, as they may impact the way the Mybook behaves..

Hi,
first of all I have to say, that I love FeaturePacks and Transmission. :)
I started using a tablet recently and noticed, that if I copy-paste an URL for a torrent file from a site, the download won't get started. (If I enter the same URL into the browser I can download and the upload the file.) The URL contains php-like address and special characters like # and [ that will be escaped like %5 and %2. This might cause some problem.
Could you please check on this? This would be great.

I have successfully set up everything, and it is running properly. All of my data files, which I transferred from my computer to my MBL TR-Downloads folder, are seeding. However, I cannot access the folder with my (Mac OSX) finder window, which uses ftp connection. The permissions are restricted. When I login to the MBL using SMB, I am able to open the TR-Downloads folder and look at the files. How can I set the permissions to be able to do the same with my ftp connection? I am no pro at ssh and Terminal, so any detail would help. Thanks.

Hi,

Great job, congratulation keeping our device up-to-date!

Question: When do you think new version of Transmission will be added? (When to reinstall it?) Current one (v2.73) includes some serious bugs. These were fixed in version 2.74:
•Fix a multi-file selection bug
•Fix bug where the upload and download arrows and rates would not appear for downloading torrents
•Fix bug when displaying the tracker list

Firstly I am by no means anything more than an amateur when it comes installing these type of software changes, but I can follow instructions and have completed the process and have Transmission up and working. My problem is that connection to Mybooklive is severely suffering. I'm currently rebooting the NAS every 20 mins or so even though I'm only transferring files over to it. Has anyone suffered these same issues and am I missing something in the settings?

Any help is gratefully received.

Watch directory

Hey there Kev, just add the following two lines to your settings.json file:

"watch-dir": "/shares/Public/WWW/TR-Downloads/Watch/",
"watch-dir-enabled": true

You can change the watch-dir path to anything you want. Just make sure you also create a directory with the same matching path in your mybook live. You may also need to restart the transmission daemon (do that via the "FeaturePacks Manager --> Transmission Configure" link.

Now you can drag/drop torrents into the "Watch" directory and Transmission will automatically start the download!

Please note I've only tried this on Transmission v2.03, but it should work for subsequent releases as well. Good luck!

To Save Transmission Settings

OK... I kinda figured out how to save the settings for Transmission manually for MBL....
If you are savvy in Linux command shell, this is what you can do....

1) SSH into your MBL as root
2) cd .config/transmission-daemon
3) cp settings.json settings.json.default
4) vi settings.json
The settings I changed was downloads-dir, incomplete-dir, and incomplete-dir-enabled, which changes the download folder as well as enable the incomplete download features.
Go through the options and you can pretty much figure out what settings to change and to what value... False means disabled, and True means enabled...etc etc etc....

No guarantee it will work for you, but it worked for me....

Good Luck

Hello,
I love this little gem, but I wonder, how will further updates be distributed?
Thank you.

teinturman :
hi,
1) when i do a change on a feature pack, i publish a new version, you can upgrade to latest feature pack from the installation menu. Parameters will be kept when upgrading a feature pack
2) some applications like transmission have their versions evolving , following the community releases. uninstalling/reinstalling the feature pack will install latest available version of the product. Feature pack configuration is lost when uninstalling/reinstalling .

3) If you want to upgrade firmware, then all feature packs and their configuration will be lost and it will be needed to reinstall them after the firmware upgrade. ( i try to make configuration of feture packs easy, so it should not take too much time... )

teinturman :
hi, it looks like a wrong version of ipkg have been installed : have you installed manually ipkg ?
normally ipkg installation is directly managed by the feature pack manager...
can you upgrade firmware ? so that you would restart from the beginning ?

if there is no new firmware available , you can issue the followign command, then retry to upgrade firmware :
echo 01.01.03>/etc/version
then, you will have to reinstall all feature packs.

I haven't succeeded connecting to anything. At least not remotely. The only user thats created is my admin user. As for the web redirect, I haven't found any settings regarding that. The configuration page only shows 2 options. The first is "Enable/disable simplified home access to AccessBook" and the second is just a way to test the external IP. which of course is not working. Thank you for the response. Hope to hear back soon.

teinturman : first, please make accessbook work : go and change the admin password, and try to connect internally first :

https://internalipaddress

when it works with the internal ip , try with the external :
https://externalipaddress
if it works internally, but not externally, review your port forwarding configuration.

then, use the following url to connect to transmission remotely :
https://externalipaddress/transmission/web/

teinturman :
Hello, the best to uninstall featurepack manager and transmission is to force a firmware upgrade.
this will get the Mybook as it was the very first day ( keeping the data).

to do so :
echo 01.01.03>/etc/version
then go to the Western digital interface to perform a firmware upgrade.

thank you for the fast response.
teinturman :
unfortunately, i have reproduced the issue, and it is due to a missing package (libcurl) in the optware repository.
we can only wait that the optware team solve this issue.
in the mean time, i have removed the installation link of transmission.

People should not upgrade firmware now, as it will not be possible to reinstall transmission...
REgards,
Thanks for your understanding.

teinturman (2) : the package is now back available. Please, uninstall/reinstall.

teinturman :
Hello,
can you try to uninstall/reinstall the feature pack ?
if you still have same error , can you try to launch the following command, then retry :
/opt/bin/ipkg update

if this solves the issue, i will ensure that this command will be included in the installation script of transmission...

Remote access

Hi,

Is it possible to access transmission remotely? I've tried http://myipaddress:9091 with port forwarding but no luck.
Any ideas?

10x in advance!

Regards,
Plamen
teinturman :
to remotely access transmission, you need to :
- install the WebServer+AccessBook Feature pack
-define a user
connect to the following url
- https://externalipaddress/transmission/web/

ONLY port 443 and port 8080 must be forwarded , no other port is needed.

Uninstall/Reinstall Transmission & FeaturePack Manager

Hello,

I had a problem after an automatic update of my WD MyBook Live.
After that update, Transmission wouldn't seed and download anything. I have read I have to uninstall and reinstall the featurepack manager after each firmware update but my question is how do I unsinstall it properly ?

To uninstall Transmission and Webserver, I have clicked the relative buttons (and now I can't reinstall them because they are not listed anymore).

Thanks for any help !
Cheers.

teinturman : please, ensure that you also have updated the System Configuration feature pack, then uninstall reinstall transmission...

"Shares" versus "shares" all lowercase

Morning.
It seems my WD Booklive as the word "shares" all lowercase and the Feature Pack webUI has it with Uppercase "S". So every time the daemon starts the download folder is pointing to the wrong share!!!
It is not impossible I did it since I've created extra folders using the WD WebUI and they were all located in the "share" (lowercase) folder!!!
Cheers, Alex.
PS. What about allowing to set the incomplete folder as well??? And can those setting be preserved between restarts?
Thanks.

teinturman :
ello,
i have just uninstalled/reinstalled the Transmission feature pack, and the download share points to /shares ...
==> i do not fully understand the issue...
can you uninstall / resinstall the feature pack ? the download folder should point to the /shares.
Download reception folder

Good morning,

I have a request: The ability to change the "Download reception folder" in the Feature Pack UI. The only way I can do it is through the webUI. But then I have to reset that setting every time I use the feature pack to start/stop the daemon.

Also, and I don't know why, but when I restart the WD Booklive, Transmission does not START although I have "Run Transmission at Startup" enabled!?!? Therefore the reason for the request.

Thank you, Alex.

teinturman : transmission has a specific behaviour , as it saves the parameters to disk only when it is properly shut down...
can you try to : modify the setting,
then try to stop / start the daemon.

is the setting kept ?
i will have to check for the automatic startup, there may be a bug here...
Transmission Error

Morning,
I did the Firmware update and re-installed the Feature & Transmission and settings: download folder "share/ishare/torrents" using the webUI interface. Today I've started 3 downloads. 1st one was very short (txt file) and is seeding now. The other 2 (+/- 8 Gb), after about 1hr (887Mb downloaded), reported "Unable to resume, save file. No space left on device". I know there is plenty of room. After freeing 8Gb, still same result. Before the firmware update, I did download a 8.5 gb, no issue.
Any suggestion?
Thanks, Alex.
teinturman :
what happen is very clear :
you have changed the download folder, to a folder which is in the small system partition !
and it has fully filled this small system partition .
==> First, i recommend not to change the default folder for torrent download.
if you change it, please use a subfolder of the /shares/Public ( please, pay attention to the case, it is case sensitive, any mistake in the case, will conduct to filling the system partition.)

if you have changed it to a wrong folder and your system is full, you will need to :
- Stop the transmission daemon
- connect via ssh, and delete the faulty files and folders from the command prompt :
cd share/ishare/torrents
ls *
rm FileName

for each file name that appears in the ls * command;
launch the rm command.

, then reconfigure transmission with a correct folder, pointing to something within /shares/Public

Firmware Upgrade

Good morning,
There is a firmware update from WD. Will the update reset the Feature Packs, or just remove the menu access only? What is the proper course of action?
Thank you.
teinturman :
when you upfrade firmware, all settings are deleted, and you will have to reinstall and reconfigure all the feature pack after the firmware upgrade.

Thanks for your work, very useful!
I have instaled the FP managaer on my WD Live, but it asks for a link to find Transmission, but there is no link?
teinturman :
if you want to install a feature pack, you need to click the "flower" button, then click the install button, in front of the TRansmission line.

to Ali.
How about changing the seed ratio??? Could that be an option? But on my DNS-321, I wrote a script that pauses the torrent using the transmission cmd. line if its status is done. I then used the cron command to schedule the script execution. All this under Linux or Debian of course using ssh access. Tha I know for sure works.

Feature Package Access

This feature Package make installations so much easier... this is be far the best add-on.

I have a problem. After installing Transmission, I have not been able to log back into the FeaturePacks Manager (http://wdbook/fpkmgr/). I did change the password to match the one use to logo onto the box itself. Should I reinstall the Manager and overwrite it, so the password is reset to "welc0me"???
I don't want to screw up the Transmission installation itself, since it is working great.
Thanks. Alex.
teinturman :
To reset the Feature pack Manager PAssword to the default Welc0me, you can type the following command :
echo admin:ADMIN:e02075586e5ecb7d393905136e0c2d2c >/usr/local/fpkmgr/WebUsers.htdigest.user

Great plug-in... I've being using Transmission on my D-Link (dns-321) for 2 years now and I love it.

However I have a request: To be able to change the download folder or at least reflect its actual location after being changed through the web interface.
Cheers, Alex.
